Insults and Adulation

            Think of a picture of former president Donald Trump, glowering, name calling, spouting threats a mile a minute…If you’re a MAGA Republican, you see an LTG, a legitimate tough guy, not afraid to speak the truth, the victim of shadowy liberal conspiracies and America’s last real hope to bring some order to the country.

            If you’re a liberal Democrat, you see a loud-mouthed bully, incapable of telling the truth and a threat to democracy.

            Me… I see something entirely different-- I see a scared man. Trump is not a tough guy, he’s all mouth, a junior high school kid talking shit on the playground. I’ve known some tough people in my life, they never talked smack or made threats. They walked away the first time, were quick with a joke, well-mannered and pretty much got along with everybody.

            But, in Trump’s case, he’s crossed The Rubicon, there’s no going back. He’s in serious trouble over January 6th and his mouth has destroyed any chance of getting a little leeway from the Special Prosecutor, or the Federal Judge hearing the case. If he wins, he wins, if he loses his ass goes to federal prison. Jack Smith, the Special Prosecutor, has the taste of blood in his mouth and the judge will be put in the position of either giving Trump jail time or some form of very restrictive house arrest.

            Nobody I know likes the idea of seeing a former president in jail, it’s too Banana Republic, but Trump could talk his way right into the slammer. I seriously doubt Trump is all that interested in being President, I think he’s far more interested in being able to pardon himself or let the clock run out on the statute of limitations.
