On the Border

Thanks to The Eagles for the title …Unless you’re a full blooded Native American, we’re all immigrants and while immigrants built this country, there’s become a trend to over romanticize anyone coming across the border. The current mess at our southern border, the grandest cock-up of the Biden administration, had much of its genesis way back in the 60’s. The counterculture of the 60’s morphed into the far left of today’s Democratic Party. The 60’s hippie preached back to the land, a simpler lifestyle, grow your own vegetables, love your animal friends, don’t eat them. There would no reason for borders, soldiers, or cops, because the world would be at peace, the Age of Aquarius had arrived. Well, things didn’t exactly work out as planned, the communes were abandoned, the hippies all ran for office as progressive democrats and eventually became today’s far left--no cash bail, early release from prison, vilifying the police as racist and above all else, a totally open border. When Biden went hat in hand to the far left to secure his election, he agreed his first day in office, Trump’s border wall would come down and the border would be open. So, three years later, we have an unknown number of people (some estimates as high as 3 million) who just walked across the border and settled in. Granted, the majority are unfortunate people fleeing poverty, violence, and political instability in Latin America, but we got some bad actors, too. The real problem is we don’t know who they are or where they’re at for the most part. Building the wall and working with Mexico, was something Trump got right, but because it was Trump’s idea, it had to go, it was tainted. So, where do we go?  I have a suggestion for fixing the crisis on the southern border, it’ll cost some money, but it’ll be far cheaper than what we’re spending, now. Build a border wall from the Pacific Ocean to the Gulf of Mexico and incorporate the latest in electronic technology. It won’t stop everyone, but it’ll damn sure slow illegal trafficking down to a trickle. Listen to the Border Patrol and Immigration officers, they know this situation better than anyone and give them anything they need, including manpower. Establish a daily quota system for entry, when you reach the number, no more applicants for the day. Applicants approach the border crossing in a single file with identification. They are photographed, fingerprinted and a DNA swab is taken, if anyone refuses, they are immediately turned around, pointed to the south and told, “Vamanos”.  After initial processing, they are transported to a regional receiving facility operated by Customs and Immigration. They are given a room, fed, receive medical care and over the next couple of days will attend some type of classes on getting a job and learning a little about life in the US. If the democrats and the republicans could get their shit together for five minutes, a simple solution would work. Yeah, I know, dream on dreamer, right? What’s the other option? Continue as is--take a woman from a little farming village in El Salvador, who’s never been more than ten miles from home, just waded the Rio Grande River, put her on a bus and dump her on a street corner in Brooklyn?...
