  1. Went on Amazon this morning looking for the Rothschild’s Jewish Space Laser, you know, the one that bat shit crazy Marjorie Taylor Greene says started all the California wildfires? I had no interest in starting any wildfires, I was just curious to read the specs, price, how they’d deliver it and if you could put it together with standard household tools...It doesn’t take much to entertain me and it was a cold rainy morning…

  2. Trump should win the Iowa Caucuses, but it won’t be by the big numbers some of the media are talking about. Iowa always favors Evangelical Christians and ultra conservative republicans; remember Ted Cruz won here the last time around and then folded. Nikki Haley may surprise some people and run a stronger than expected second.

  3. Happy Birthday to Stephen Stills (CSN&Y) who turned 78 and Donald Fagen (Steely Dan) who turned 76 this week. They’re a couple of poster boys for the “My generation had the best music” campaign.

  4. When you get to be an old fart like me, it’s natural to think about what you did right and what you screwed up. If I died today, I think my obit would read, “…Talents many, not enough of any…”  (I stole that, it’s on the tombstone of Jane Mason, one of Ernest Hemingway’s paramours)

  5. I saw a photo online the other day—It was a big, nasty looking Pitbull with a cigarette in his mouth. The caption read, “I just got chased by a Pitbull with a fucking Marlboro in his mouth, I ain’t ever comin’ back to Chicago!” After I got done laughing, I blew the picture up, shook my head and muttered, “Goddamn, I recognize that neighborhood…”

  6. Live your life on your own terms, do it your way, live it like a book, a book that Florida would ban ….

  7. Been a tough month in the losing friends department. Last week, Harold E. “Skip” Nelson passed away. He was a police officer. He started at the bottom and worked his to the top of the department. I was his first supervisor when he came into “detective section” and I watched with pride as he climbed the ladder. It was no surprise, he had “star” written all over him from the first day. But what I was proudest of was the way he did it- he was a man, a “stand up guy”, no broken bodies, or ass-kissing in his wake. Rest well, my friend.  I’ll see you on the other side…

  8.  The second tough loss—the legendary Diana Rogers passed away a couple of days ago. Flamboyant, zany and incredibly talented, she was a Savannah legend behind that piano and had played all over the world in some of the most prestigious venues. A lot of you who’ve visited here saw her at The Olde Pink House. Diana had a multitude of admirers and groupies and a few friends. Being one of the friends was a high compliment and at times exasperating. She loved theme parties and home repairs, both of which included the friends and always ended with chaos and laughter. She was larger than life and she was my pal. I’ve said my goodbyes and I’ll keep this one picture—Ann and I walk through the door of Planters Tavern, you give us that snarky grin and no matter what you’re playing, you instantly change and rip into that big piano lead in to Duke Ellington’s “Satin Doll”…. Duke Ellington would have been really proud of you….

Tomorrow, or the next day, I’m going out on a limb before the first vote is counted and give my betting line and prediction all the way through to November. I’m either going to bring in a longshot or eat a bunch of crow.
