“…Well, Lord, Lord, Miss Sally, why all your cryin'? Been around here three long days, lookin' like we're dyin'. Go step yourself outside, and look up at the stars above, go on downtown, baby, find somebody to love…” Ain’t wastin’ Time No More…The Allman Brothers Band… We’re 14 days away from an election that 50% of the voting public never wanted, it’s the bastard child of presidential elections. It’s a situation where half the potential voters can’t stop shaking their heads thinking about their choices. They’re not as Gregg Allman and Dicky Betts said, “…looking for somebody to love…”, they’d settle for somebody they marginally agree with. I don’t pretend to be a statistician, or a college math major. I’m a cynic and a gambler, I look at trends and watch the little things most people disregard because they’re not based on emotion. We frequently come to conclusions, right or wrong, that many conventional thinkers never look at. Half of the public don’t want either Trump or Harris in the White House, hell, most of them don’t even want either candidate speaking in public. But the fact remains that in 14 days they’ll have to choose between two people they don’t want to vote for. We’re inundated by political ads, advice and so-called insight on television news from a bubble-headed bleach blonde who comes on at five (thanks for that one, Don Henley), or read it on the internet from a 40-year-old guy who lives in his parents’ basement and eats boogers. It’s the media driven cult of personality- I’m going to vote for Trump because he’ll do better on the economy, or I’m voting for Harris because Trump is obnoxious. This election is all about personality not issues; neither candidate can look down the road and see a future for this country. They’re prisoners of three issues, only three- abortion, the southern border, and the economy, the latter of which the majority can’t even spell, or understand beyond the price of a tank of gas, the price of roller food at Circle K, or a case of beer. Both candidates have sold their souls and are running campaigns based on fear and dividing people. It works well with the half who vote on personality, but falls on its face with issues voters, that 50% of the voting public are trying to decide if they should just leave the top line of the ballot blank. The other half, the true believers of both the progressives and MAGA don’t have that problem. MAGA is suspicious of change, they view Harris as the poster girl for DEI, after all, that’s how she got the job- Biden was losing his marbles, and Kamala checked all the boxes for a progressive candidate. That’s how she got the VP job, she was a black female, and Biden needed the black vote. All she cares about are perverts, queers and funny looking people who don’t speak English. MAGA sees Trump as a throwback to happier times, prisons were overflowing with criminals, black folks knew their place, the border was secure, immigrants came here, damn few of them, and by the time they got residency, we knew more about them than they knew about themselves. It was about ‘merica, ‘merican factories, ‘merican jobs, ‘merican pride…screw the rest of the world. Progressives see Trump and shudder- vulgar, profane, and as crazy as Uncle Clyde’s pet tomcat. He overturned Rowe vs Wade, he’s a climate denier, a roadblock to green energy, and he doesn’t use the correct pronouns. He’s a block to the country’s move into the George Jetson age, a Starbuck’s in every hand, a Korean BBQ on every corner, and a big, national chalkboard that tracks DEI in every facet of life. I envy MAGA and the Progressives, there’s no decisions to be made, just follow the herd, let fads, group think, false prophets, and internet influencers set the tone for your life…or, just maybe, do a James Dean, get pissed, don’t let the media or second rate politicians tell you what to think, or what to do, lead your own life…Ok, the rant is over, adios amigos, see ya’ in a couple of days….
